Sasha

I was born in Guatemala and raised in Oakland. I am in 4th grade. Something that impacts my life is the violence in my neighborhood, I want to stop the violence. I crossed the dessert with my mother three times! and my mom went to jail for three days with me :( but my mom asked the police to please give her a blanket for her baby (me) and they said no... so we learned to not cross the dessert again but my mom never gave up until we became citizens! I want to be a part of D.K.D.E because I want to be very responsible and because I have never performed in different cities. I want to change my life so I might be noticed as a famous dancer.  I have learned that if you never give up you will reach your future!

Spencer

I am from Mexican- American heritage. I was born in 2002 and I am currently in the 5th grade. I used to have family problems and friends conflicts but know that I am in D.K.D.E. I can settle problems without violence or bad language. I am bilingual, I can speak Spanish and English. I am learning how to write in Spanish! I used to hate dance but now I dance at every party thanks to D.K.D.E!!!

Aqua
I am from Guatemalan heritage, born in Oakland. I was raised in a middle size house with my mom, dad, and older sister. Going to Guatemala for the first time impacted my life as a kid and even now. I am in fifth grade and I want to be in D.K.D.E because I want to learn new themes about dance and how dance works. I think and believe that being part of D.K.D.E will change my life by letting me learn how to flex and move without hurting myself.

Snowy
I was born in California but with Mexican heritage. I am in 3rd grade and was born in 2005. When I got chosen to be in DKDE I was like "Why is Ms Yeye putting us in a different table!?" and when I understood it was a dance team I was surprise I was going to dance in front of everybody! What I learned from DKDE was that when you dance is as if your are acting... I learned to not be playing around because it is important to practice so you know what to do! I made my friend feel sad and I learned to not scream at her while I am talking to her because that makes it a bigger problem and it does not help the solution work. The solution is that I talk calmly, drink water and laugh and that way we became better friends!

Gen-Gen
I am the assistant choreographer for D.K.D.E and dancer. I am in the 5th grade. I was born in the Philippines but raised in Oakland. I came to the United States to visit my family. I wish to make peace on earth and make change in my life. Today, I am starting my new life in D.K.D.E. where I dance like never before! If I had not come to the United States I wouldn't be in D.K.D.E. where my life started.

Sunshine
I love D.K.D.E. because I want to be a dancer. My life was really hard, it wasn't like that before but now my life has changed.  When I started practicing for D.K.D.E. my life changed.

Sonic

I'm in the 5th grade. The reason why I want to be in D.K.D.E its because I want to inspire others to dance. I also want to show how dancing can be exciting and fun.

Snowflake
I am from Mexico I used to live in San Francisco and I was born in 2005. I love DKDE because if I was not in DKDE I would not know how to dance. I have improved my dancing in DKDE. Being in DKDE taught me how to work on my family problems and friends problems. I was afraid in the beginning that I couldn't dance but then I found out that I could dance!
